Hello mindful movers,

The holidays can be filled with scrumptious food and lively get togethers, but also come with a heaping side of STRESS. Wrapping presents and eating fudge can seem like all fun and games- it is not.  Were you forced to eat that fruitcake? Did your uncle bring up that thing at the family dinner you knew he’d bring up that alwaaaays causes a fight? Have you called your aunt to thank her for the subscription to the New Yorker that you swear you will read this year and IT WILL NOT just become something to sit on your coffee table to impress guests.

Well, I think you deserve some more me time to wind down from the holiday season! As the weather gets colder and colder, here are my suggestions of some binge worthy shows to watch, a soup to slurp, and some new clothes to spend that $100 bill your dad gave you, because he is never quite sure what you want anymore.

Unbreakable Kimmy Schmidt (Netflix)– Attention! RED ALERT! The second half of the last season of Unbreakable Kimmy Schmidt  is available on January 25 (just enough time for you to binge watch season 1-4A if you haven’t watched it yet). I am not ready to say goodbye to Kimmy, but so happy to start 2019 with the optimism of Kimmy and the confidence of Titus.

Vanderpump (Bravo)– Vanderpump is back: New season, old characters and the same drama, yet is still just as juicy. Something about these hot LA waitresses that have money to spend on ridiculous things almost makes having a food industry job appealing. There is even a Vanderpump rose to go with the show! Commercial breaks are long enough that you can repore yourself a glass every time there is one.

90 Day Fiance- (TLC) Literally the best reality show out there. I am truly an addict to reality TV, but couldn’t survive without this one.  International love affairs mixed with people that can’t understand US law or a basic understanding of compatibility and passion? Yes. Please.

Dinner to go with your shows:

Carrot Ginger Soup

10 cups baby carrots or approx. 6 large carrots peeled and cut into 2-inch pieces (about 1 1/2 pounds of carrots)
2 tablespoons olive oil, divided
1 medium yellow onions, diced (about 2 cups)
1/2 teaspoon salt (or more if you’re feeling it)
1/4 teaspoon freshly ground black pepper + more to taste
1 thumb-sized piece of fresh ginger, peeled and minced (about 2 tablespoons)
4 cups low-sodium vegetable broth
1/2 cup heavy whipping cream- or use coconut milk!

  1. Set the oven to 400 degrees

  2. Place the carrots in a large bowl and drizzle them in 1 tablespoon of olive oil. Toss in the salt and the pepper to coat the carrots. Place the carrots on a pan and cook for 40 min or or until tender and brown.

  3. Place the other tablespoon of oil in a pan and cook the onions until brown (8-10 min) while the carrots are cooking.. Add broth and ginger. Reduce heat and let simmer.

  4. Add carrots to the broth. Once it has cooled, puree the soup.

  5. Place the pureed soup on a burner. Reduce heat to low and stir in the heavy whipping cream

Shopping Suggestions:

  1. Not Your Mother’s Royal Honey & Kalahari Desert Melon Repair + Protect or Healthy Sexy Hair Tri-Wheat Leave In Conditioner

I just finished reading “Me, My Hair, and I: Twenty-seven Women Untangle an Obsession” (you should get it and read it!!!) so hair has really been on my mind lately. The book talks about how if you ask a woman about her hair, you will often get a story of the woman’s life. Everything in my life has been tied to my hair in one way or another. I used to have mega curly hair until I learned in high school, curly hair is soooo last year, and straightened it every day until I damaged it and now is just wavy. I cut my hair short every time something traumatic happens to me or when I am going into a new phase in my life. Why? I dunno. And bangs. The horror of bangs on my face! Yet, I continue to go back to them. But one thing has always stayed true about my hair, it is frizzy. These two leave in conditioners help my frizz so much. The Not Your Mother’s is a little bit thicker than the Healthy Sexy Hair, but I would say they are very comparable in the battle against frizz.

  1. TONYMOLY: I’m Real Mask Sheet

Okay y’all, I have the worst acne. I am not talking about the couple of blemishes that appear around your period that can easily be covered up with foundation. I am talking about war zone outbreaks on my face that take months to go away, but by the time they are gone another war has broken out. Nothing has helped completely clear my acne, but these sheet masks certainly help soothe my burning, flaky, bad-genetic-skin face on days. My personal faves are the wine mask and the tea tree mask.

  1. Soybu Commando LeggingHelloYoga Apparel

If you’re like me, you have those pairs of underwear that roll, and move out of place underneath leggings- and it’s the absolute worst! I recently found a pair of leggings from HelloYoga Apparel that offers a lining inside the legging so that you can rock them sans underwear. Instant smoothness, no futzing, and total comfort. You totally need these in your life.

All of these combined are sure to give you the weekend of you dreams! We’ve got you, girl! Start this year treating you!
